Temperature 60 degrees; Members present: Wayne Nabors and Jack Phillips
Field Chairman and Treasurer Wayne Nabors arrived early and proceeded to finish the Aircraft pavilion. Anticipating bad weather, he did not even bring a plane to the field. Jack called to see if Wayne needed any help and wanted to bring his recently completed and much anticipated Dynaflite Super Decathlon down to the field for initial carburetor adjustments and preflight inspection. Wayne insisted that even if we couldn't fly the new airplane, we could finish all adjustments necessary for a future flight on Sunday or another day the following week. Jack got there about 3:30 PM just as Wayne was coming down off the ladder having finished the roofing on the pavilion (talk about timing). Wayne and jack assembled the Super Decathlon and started the new Zenoah G38 Power plant. After a few RPM checks and adjustments for full throttle as well as idle speed, the moment had come. They refueled the plane, range checked the radio, started the engine, checked again for vibration/radio interference, and it was time to fly. Jack took off heading east as what small breeze we had was from the north, and proceeded to check/trim and try out the new plane. The airplane performed beautifully and Jack made several passes over the flight line to see the big (89" wingspan) bird fly by. At time to land, Jack landed east to west and with Wayne's help watching the east fence line, Jack landed the plane in about 200' of runway. The plane showed little wear from the flight and will be back out at Magnolia on Sunday to put the plane through the paces.
